Our Club
The Fort Wayne Croquet Club was founded in 2026 by the Fort Wayne Curling Club. In 2025, the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Curling Club voted to construct a Lawn Bowling Green in the rear of the club’s property to introduce the sport of Lawn Bowls to Fort Wayne and surrounding areas and allow the club to function year round on its property located at 3837 N. Wells Street in Fort Wayne.
Lawn Bowls is a sport that is quite similar to Curling, but played on a finely manicured bowling green that is 120′ x 120′ and surrounded by a small ditch and a bank. This green is quite similar to a very flat golf green and ideal for the sport of Croquet as well as Lawn Bowls. In fact, may Lawn Bowls Greens around the United States and elsewhere are used for both Lawn Bowls and Croquet.
In 2026, as the construction of the green was nearing completion, the Fort Wayne Curling Club founded the Fort Wayne Croquet Club to make the sport of Croquet available to people of all ages and abilities.
About Golf Croquet
Many people’s first introduction to the sport of Croquet was through a backyard Croquet set and the typical 9-Wicket double diamond layout where the players raced to get through all of the wickets and be the first to hit the final stake. In 9-wicket Croquet, you can earn extra shots by hitting another player’s ball or going through a wicket. A skilled player can end up getting many points in a row and the players are scattered around the court.
Golf Croquet is a faster-paced, easier to learn version of the sport of Croquet that is the most popular version of the sport worldwide.
In Golf Croquet, players are competing to be the first player to get their ball through each wicket, taking just one turn each with no opportunities to earn extra balls. This means that the players of a game are close together (therefore the game is more sociable) and alternating turns at all times. The usage of “Golf” in the name Golf Croquet is used to denote that the players are all playing the same wicket at once.
The court for Golf Croquet is set up in with 6-wickets and the wickets must be played in a specific order and in a specific direction. Once one player passes through a wicket, that player scores a point and all players move on to the next wicket.
The game is most typically played as pairs or singles and played as a best of 13 meaning the first player to score 7 points, wins the game. Once all six wickets have been played through, the players return to wicket 1. Unlike American 6-Wicket Croquet, Association Croquet and backyard 9-Wicket Croquet, the stake is merely an obstacle on Golf Croquet.
Once a game has moved past the second wicket, a second game can be played on the same court. This is known as double banking.
